Dear NEARI Community,
As you may know, in December, NEARI experienced the very sad loss of our founder and Executive Director, Steven Bengis. Steve was a visionary leader who gave his heart and soul to his work. We know that his presence has had a lasting impact and we are grateful for all that he accomplished.
NEARI’s Board of Directors is very pleased to share the news that we have found someone who will continue Steve’s vision and bring new energy to the next chapter for NEARI. We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Craig Latham joined NEARI as its new Executive Director on July 1, 2016.
Craig was a good friend of Steve’s for many years. To NEARI, Craig has been and continues to be a valued and well-respected colleague, someone who brings a wealth of experience to his work. He holds a master’s degree in Child Development and a doctorate in Personality and Developmental Psychology, both from Harvard University. This training led him to a career where he has worked closely with violent and emotionally disturbed adolescents in a variety of capacities for state agencies and in private practice. Over the years, Craig has worked for and as a consultant to law enforcement professionals, the judiciary, state agencies, and private providers on the treatment of children, adolescents, and young adults who engage in high-risk behavior. Craig has served on the boards of several professional and advocacy organizations throughout his career.
When we asked Craig why he chose to shift from a successful private practice and nationally recognized consultant to leading NEARI he said, “I can’t think of a better way to spend each day than going to work and trying to make something better for children and families.”
Simply said, we are lucky to have Craig with us. Please join us in welcoming Craig Latham to NEARI.
