New Infectious Diseases Protocol
Recently the majority of our regulatory bodies, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) have updated guidance regarding preventing the spread of infections in K-12 Schools. After consultation with our school nurse and doctor, leadership has made the determination to shift our policy and practice to align with current guidance.
Going forward both NEARI staff and students, who present with symptoms consistent with respiratory viral illnesses (including COVID-19, flu, and RSV) will be asked to stay home until the symptoms are improving and they are fever free (without medication) for 24 hours. Afterwards they are permitted to return and we will ask that they mask for a period of 5 days. Again good preventive measures such as handwashing, personal hygiene, vaccinations and getting lots of fresh air continue to be the best way of ensuring folks remain healthy and engaged in learning!
